Shehani Peiris
SHINE Choir Director
Shehani Peiris has been teaching piano and choral music for 30 years. Starting piano at the age of 4 with her mother she continued until she was awarded the Licentiate of the Trinity College of Music London, Diploma in Piano.
Growing up in the beautiful island of Sri lanka, music and drama was an important part of her life. She enjoyed marching band, both secular and church choir, musical drama and experienced the sights and sounds of rhythmic srilankan music. In middle school, high school and thereafter she is grateful to all her family, mentors, teachers and various musicians, who taught and led her in various musical extravaganzas. In the working world, she is so thankful for the opportunities she had to be an accompanist, a piano teacher and a choral music teacher. What started as opportunities in her young life spiked up confidence in a shy girl who loved music. In this season of her life, she teaches piano at home, classroom music in a couple of schools and is a pianist in her home church. Today she gives thanks to God for her journey, which has always been, is, and will be filled with music. |
Dona Kachele
Early Learning Music Instructor
Early Learning Music Instructor

Dona Kachele Grew up in a musical family, to parents who were entertainers. Family fun was gathering around the microphone and making harmony to guitar accompaniment. Entertaining, however, didn’t really interest her, but a statement her mother made about entertaining did: “I always told the audience with my eyes, ‘I’m glad you’re here; let me give you this [song].’” That planted a seed, watered by a high school music teacher, that would form a passion to give music to others; to teach.
Mrs. Kachele earned her Bachelor of Music with Education Emphasis from University of Nevada, Las Vegas. In graduate work at UNLV and Seattle Pacific University she earned Levels I-III certifications in the Orff-Schulwerk, an experiential music learning process which spawns creativity and critical thinking while growing the learner in musical skills.
She taught in public and private schools for 13 years, and is excited to join the Azusa Conservatory this fall, teaching families to have fun together while learning musical concepts. The classes make use of speaking, singing, body percussion, movement and pitched and unpitched percussion instruments. All family members participate; and to Mrs. Kachele, that’s the most fun of all!
